This state of the art facility brings together neurorehabilitation and neuropsychiatry services,
currently being delivered over several locations in the North East of England. When opened late
2006 it will be a centre of excellence for the provision of stroke and head injury victims.
Description
This 10,200m
2 facility is being constructed on a brownfield site which will be substantially landscaped
to provide a pleasant and healing environment – incorporating sensory gardens and a driver rehabilitation track.
The majority of the facility contains 65 specialist bedroom units with ensuites to support patients with a range of
neurodisabilities. The rehabilitation areas consist of several therapy rooms including gyms and a hydrotherapy pool.
The design and functionality of the Centre is expected to outperform the guidelines of Section 21 of the Disability
Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995. It will set standards of best practice and enable everyone full access and use of the
services and facilities.
